The Hospitality Relief Fund was created by the Indiana Restaurant and Lodging Association (InRLA) to activate emergency funding for employees of the Hoosier hospitality industry who were and still are reeling in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic economic fallout.
The fund was launched on April 9, 2020, and within a few days received more than 7,000 applications. With that also came an outpour of support from our community in donations from Hoosiers and sponsorships from industry and state partners which helped us raise $164,691. To date, InRLA has processed 436 applications and awarded $127,500 in one-time $500 grant checks that will help provide food, gas, utilities, and rent – basic living needs for 255 of the hardest-hit Hoosiers!
InRLA continues to process applications and award grants with the remaining balance but asks for additional support to help aid the thousands of applications that have yet to be granted. It is our hope that Indiana can show that we are #InThisTogether and will continue to support our community. We appreciate your consideration of any contribution and resources you can provide to help sustain Indiana's incredible hospitality industry.
Tammie Taylor, who worked for a hospitality management company in Valporaiso was one of our 245 grant recipients and shared the following after receiving her check.
"Unfortunately I was one of many people in our industry to get laid off and I am very fortunate that I was a recipient of the grant. I have been in the industry for over 30 years and can say I never saw something like this impacting our industry," Taylor said. "Unfortunately it has been a very rough 1 1/2 years for me personally as I am recovering from breast cancer last year and was fortunate to work through my surgeries and recovery with my management company this past year only to be laid off a few months ago due to COVID. So this check means more to me than you can know with medical bills and not having a job currently. This definitely helps so thank you very much."
